A job this size is not the easiest to estimate…office space of 10,000 SQF, but we did it, and our proposal was accepted and now the real work was about to start.  I am thankful for the crew that Royal Services has put together for jobs just like this.  We are to the point that the crew ran itself as I went to make other sales of new business, and the time line was met.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first day in; we tackled Janitorial and scrubbed all VCT floors so Floor Finish could be applied the following day.  The third day all Janitorial was completed and the ceramic floors had received a grout treatment.  The fourth day was carpets…and the following morning we walked the property with the manager of Garden Fresh who was thrilled with his Royal experience and the quality of work we represent.  "You have exceeded my expectations" is the phrase that was used.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How do you exceed your clients expectations?  With Royal Services we do what we do, and we do that job well.  Every one of us takes ownership of his/her work, and have the pride to finish the job correctly.  We want to make those floors shine (yes…we saw the reflections of the overhead lights in the floors). It's important that you clean the path to your front door (according to Feng Shui), and let's be honest, who are you impressing with stepping around this and that to get through your business door?  Clean…orderly…and debris free let's the positive energy flow into your business, not to mention that attractive business curb appeal that you have created.  A welcoming experience is welcoming not only existing patrons, but new prospects as well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How much time does it take a staff member to spot the glass in the front door periodically throughout the day, in between Royal Services visits?  This small investment of time, is perhaps the single most thing that you as a business owner can do to welcome customers and guests.  "If they don't have pride in the appearance of  their business, then how can they take pride in their work, product, service, etc…" is a comment that I received about the importance of an entrance. In Michigan this is a common site when we walk into a building, either an over-zealous service thought that it would be better to dump an entire bag of salt right outside your business door, or your greeted by those less than attractive residue marks (Salt Stains) on your hard surfaced floors and carpeting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;GOOD&lt;/strong&gt; news…there are things that can be done prior or in-between Royal Services coming in to make that continual &lt;strong&gt;GREAT&lt;/strong&gt; first impression. A few easy tips to assist in the continual great first impression includes having a vacuum near the main entry door for a periodic vacuum patrol during the work day.  Carpet runners and runner service should be YOUR best friend this time of year.  Human nature of walking on a carpeted runner is natural, like walking on a runway, and at the same time, a lot of the moisture and ice repellants are left there, on the carpeted runner and not all over your building.  Take a moment to leave a carpeted runner or door mat outside the door too, you'll be amazed at how much snow and slop will be left outside of your building.    Keep a wet floor sign near that door, just as an extra reminder that caution is needed.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Contact Royal Services for other useful tips. The participants in this group range from Baby Boomers, X Gen and Y Gen…what a great mix and a diverse set of perspectives.  Interestingly…our youngest member of the group nailed it right on the head (in my opinion), saying that the message delivered, depending on the generation your addressing can take place in a text (Y Gen)…email (X Gen)…or handwritten form (Baby Boomers).  This of course is not all inclusive…I do consider myself computer and technology savvy, but what an interesting idea and started me thinking how does this apply to the messages that we deliver in our day to day business?  This could be an endless discussion, but one that I think all business owners need to consider in promoting our businesses.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Royal Services promotes a clean environment that's important no matter what generation you are from, but I know that for our younger audience 'green' is a HUGE buzz word.  Now I am wondering, do I expand the vehicles of delivering my message?   Do we tweet, text, email or eblast to get the word of &lt;strong&gt;CLEAN&lt;/strong&gt; to the streets?  Chazzano Coffee and Dino's Restaurant (both of which are in Ferndale) use all of these vehicles, and also have included Video clips into their marketing….and using them ALL very effectively.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Regardless of the market that I am targeting, Royal Services will work with your staff to make that &lt;strong&gt;GREAT&lt;/strong&gt; first impression for your Boomers, X Gen, Y Gen or even Z Gen walking through your doors. It's so easy to find other things that need to be done…Busy Work…but by keeping our pipelines filled on a daily basis, we create the building blocks for success.  The simple idea of reaching out and touching 5 new people or opportunities a day is crucial to keeping our pipeline filled.  Speaking to a group of people, passing and receiving a business card, suggesting to meet for a coffee to learn about each other's business are all great ways to reach out and touch people.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The benefits: You may meet some fascinating individuals, as well as future business opportunities.  You may create a new friendship, or you may create an amazing referral source for future business.  For myself, I have met and developed all of the above, and find myself blessed with the acquaintance of these people. Royal Services reached new heights in business, and I continue to be blessed with a strong staff, solid partnering businesses and an ever growing network of friends and business associates that support and take me to task in many different forms.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After doubling my business in '09, Royal Services hit it hard again this year closing with a respectable 44% growth.  I am looking ahead in our continual evolution as I create a sales team, and plotting the path that Royal Services will take as we enter a new decade.  This is an exciting time in business, with so many opportunities in front of us, and our list of quality associates continues to grow.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Community will continue to be such a strong part of Royal Services and more important... myself. You may not think this, but if you're a public venue, with washrooms that your patrons use such as a restaurant, Café, or office building, your washrooms are on the front line when making a GREAT first impression.  The subtle things need to be addressed.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One such story, I walked into the men's washroom and what met me at the door...the wonderful fragrance of urine.  This was just cleaned a few hours before by Royal Service professionals, so the cleaning was not an issue.  If you have this problem, besides the obvious that someone totally missed the urinal, chances are that you should change the urinal block but then also put a lime treatment or bleach down that drain to address the calcium deposits that occur from urine.  Simple and yet very effective!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Simple things can be done in-between Royal Services visits to put on your best face with visitors.  Periodically check the mirrors, sinks and chrome, they only take a moment to freshen up.  Those receptacles in the woman's washroom stalls, DO NOT let them overflow…again, it only takes a moment.  An air freshening system is affordable and quite effective.  Set the internal timer, and let the device do the work for you. I had prepared and submitted a proposal for cleaning her facility, that I feel is complete, competitive, and well put together, and then she asked about the human side of our business and if I would consider bringing on the staff of the competitive company.  There is a human side to every transaction that we do, and of course I asked of the current staff who does she consider the best.  After she told me that woman that does the washrooms (there's 33 on this property), I could understand and appreciate her concern for the people themselves. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We realize that we are only as good as how we train our staff and the people themselves.  Of course I welcome the opportunity to discuss employment with these individuals.  As Royal Services continues to evolve, we make room for those that bring to the table dedication, being detailed, and invaluable experience, while at the same time putting the Royal Services polish to the staff and the facilities.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How do you include the human side into your business? Are you keeping your eyes open for these opportunities?  First stop was Snap Fitness in Ferndale, and I ran into writers that I know, sharing a great new carry out, Neighborhood Noodle.  Next, after a shower, I was off to a meeting with the owner of my first cleaning company.  We ended up taking about a path of opportunities for both of us…a comfortable conversation which uncovered new avenues for both.  Now I walked into Chazzano Coffee and ran into a PR specialist that I have been wanting to consult with, looking around…a partner in M-1 Studios is here, the owner of eBootcamp and of course the owner of Chazzano is here.  So, as I am going through my Friday, my eyes are open to my surroundings. I found a matte/flat floor sealer and finish.  Not all customers want a shine to their floors, but instead a sturdy finish that will relate to perhaps a more industrial look.   With the change of season coming, Royal Services can create a slip resistant floor for you.  This won't effect the beautiful appearance of your floor, or the durability. That mass expanse that surrounds our feet can have a lot of influence with the total appearance of the space.  Take a moment and look down right now…is the flooring you are on clean or dirty?  What is the floor made of?  Is there it a dull or shiny finish?  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Royal Services has your back on flooring issues.  Are your floors&lt;em&gt; carpeted, pigmented cement, stone, brick, CVT Tile, Terrazzo, or even raw cement&lt;/em&gt;?  There are treatments that we use that can and will make a GREAT first impression.  How about a satin finsh on a pigmented cement floor, with a non slip agent added in to the floor finish?  We have done that and the results were amazing. I try to always greet and say good morning or good afternoon to all that I come in contact with. A friendly face and friendly word can set the tone for a conversation; can spread a few kind words or even open doors in the not so distant future. The truth is that it takes no effort, and makes you and the recipient feel good. I told a friend a month ago that the power of the word is amazing, but the power of your actions is lasting. Saying Good Morning or Good Afternoon combines both words and actions. Give it a try!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One day, I was in one of my client’s buildings, and saw someone I didn’t know. Of course I said “Good Morning” and offered a smile. I introduced myself, and he did the same, saying that he worked for Professional Renovation Services. I passed my business card, and said if you would like to meet sometime, I would welcome the opportunity, but in the meantime, have a great day. This random sincere gesture, resulted in a phone call from his company, resulted in a new client and our first job doing post construction work with our new customer, and resulted in a new partner in Professional Renovation Services. Yesterday, one of the individuals came up to me and thanked me for taking the time, going the extra mile, to make sure that they each knew about each other’s business.  It may take a little extra effort on my part, but the end result is so worth it, as I watch 2 individuals look at the possibilities of what can be created between their 2 businesses. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, when you refer someone, take the time to make sure it’s qualified, take the time for a warm PERSONAL introduction, and if at ALL possible, take the time to be there for the first meeting, allowing your relationship that is already there to gap the 2 referral sources. The management or owners of a building love to place pennies in various spots throughout a building or space that is contracted to be cleaned.  That way I swear that they think “OH, they will be caught this time for cutting corners”!  If the penny is still in the same spot after cleaning is done, they can ask, was the building REALLY cleaned thoroughly? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At Royal Services we ARE thorough and we are not going to walk away from money!  My staff is instructed, if they see a penny, pick it up, it goes into their pocket and make sure that the space is cleaned as always, because their Royal Services Supervisor is right behind them checking their work. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NO corners left unturned or ignored.  Detail is our middle name, and you’re going to be pleased with the finished results, and of course it goes without saying, you’re going to be making that GREAT first impression!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now back to the story.  So, on one scheduled clean there were pennies all over the place, I was there that time, collecting the pennies and making sure that the cleaners were doing their job properly.  I collected 40 pennies from that one client.  Taking the 40 pennies back to the manager I put them on his desk and said “Next time save the pennies, leave quarters. "What turns you on about cleaning?"  A simple question enough, but a simple question with BIG impact. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My first implication was money, but money can be earned at any number of things.  After thinking on it over night, I came to the conclusion it was the finished product.  It was how the client or building looked as I or my staff was leaving out through the front door.  It was the corners being spotless, it was the glass being smudge free, it was the garbage being taken out, it was the furniture arranged just so for the client's opening the following day.  It was the fact that we were helping our customer make a GREAT first impression. Sewer backup into both washrooms, and the hall outside of the dining area of their cafe'!!!! I told them, not to panic, I will be there with staff in 30 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We walked in through the kitchen, took control of the situation and cleaned up the mess, disinfected, and got their odor problem under control, all before the lunch crowd hit the doors.
